South African Embassy hosts National Day for 2019

​

On 22 May 2019, the South African Embassy to The Holy See celebrated South Africa’s Freedom Day at the Kolbe Hotel, the first by the South African Embassy accredited to The Holy See since the Embassy was opened in 2017.

The event also marked 25 years since South Africa gained Freedom, it was also a celebration of 25 years of diplomatic ties between South Africa and The Holy See. The celebrations approached a large number of the diplomatic community, the clergy and the African diaspora.

During his speech, His Excellency, Ambassador George Johannes emphasised the importance South Africa places on bilateral relations with The Holy See, stating that South Africa views The Holy See as a strategic partner in mediation, the fight against HIV and AIDS, poverty alleviation as well as the quest for nuclear disarmament.
